For instance, the deaerator is really a boiler feed tank used to store and pump water into the boiler during the evaporation process of converting water into steam. The difference with a feed tank only; however, is that a deaerator is also a mechanical pre-treater of the make-up water removing the corrosive oxygen and carbon dioxide before it has a chance to corrode the boiler metal or condensate lines; saving significantly on chemicals and wasted Btu’s due to increased blowdown requirements. The deaerator design can be either a spray, column or tray type.
