Super Boiler

Think Locally... Act Globally - Save energy and reduce emissions with the Super Boiler

Cleaver-Brooks, in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) has developed the first Super Boiler. Roughly 40% or over 80,000 firetube boilers in the marketplace today are over 25 years of age. Most likely these units are operating well below today’s efficiency standards. The energy and emissions savings potential is significant when weighing the cost/price alternatives ranging from complete boiler replacement to retrofitable energy saving options; often legitimizing immediate capital expenditure depending on the individual situation.

Cleaver-Brooks can offer an immediate Green Energy Solution; reducing fuel costs and associated carbon based emissions by as much as 30-40% for the American Process Industry. The solution package includes an integral firetube boiler, advanced Hawk ICS controls and a uniquely designed economizer for unsurpassed fuel to steam efficiency.

Potential host sites should satisfy the following preliminary requirements:

  • Steam demand: 3,600 to 29,000 lb/h of 100- to 150-psig saturated steam
  • Fuel: natural gas
  • Natural gas supply: 10 psig minimum at full boiler load
  • Feed water: <1 ppm hardness, pH 7.5-8.5,
  • Makeup water more than 50% of total boiler feed water (condensate return <50%)
  • Annual capacity factor: minimum 50%
  • Internet access for remote performance monitoring
  • 6 months on location monitoring
  • Reasonably clean and accessible location
  • Ceiling height: minimum 12 ft above boiler flue gas outlet
  • Floor space: 1.0 sq ft per boiler horsepower
